Christopher Tan , Principal Professional Officer, Singapore Institute of Technology
Christopher leads Graduate Certificates in Fire Safety Engineering at Singapore Institute of Technology as Principal Professional Officer. With over 40 years of experience spanning public service, consultancy, and academia, he served 35 years with SCDF in senior leadership roles including Director of Fire Safety & Shelter Department and Civil Defence Academy Commander.
He chaired committees for Singapore's first interactive Fire Code 2018 and Fire Engineering Guidelines, playing a pivotal role in introducing the performance-based fire engineering framework in 2001. As FSSD Director, he oversaw critical regulatory functions and served as Senior Consultant to Qatar's government.
Christopher later headed Surbana Jurong's fire consultancy unit, contributing to complex international projects. He holds a Master in Fire Safety Engineering and Bachelor of Science in Building, and is a Fellow of the Institution of Fire Engineers (UK). He serves in leadership roles with professional bodies and national committees, receiving the Public Administration Medal (Silver) in 2015.
